Business Law focuses on the application of law to business operations and transactions in the United States. It is designed to provide students with an overview of the legal system, including statutes and regulations that affect businesses, families, and individuals in a variety of ways. All of you will eventually assume the role of citizen, worker, and consumer in society. This course will provide you with a solid foundation in understanding legal issues that impact businesses, but will also focus on “real life” situations that rely on the law. These “real life” situations may apply to you someday. Business topics in this course focus on legal regulations, which govern modern society including Internet privacy and security, ethics, and computer crime. Other topics covered include an exploration of contracts, agency, and negotiable instruments. Personal Finance topics include buying and insuring a car, renting an apartment, buying a home, marriage, divorce, and the use of personal credit. Some of the most common crimes and torts are discussed, including traffic violations, search and seizure laws, vandalism, and shoplifting. You will also explore and analyze “real life”

  7. Explain the proper use of and responsibilities associated with negotiable instruments.
