Civics describes the organization and operation of government on the local, state, and national levels. Students’ roles in family, school, and the economy are investigated with an emphasis on their rights and responsibilities. Students will also develop an understanding of the challenges faced with U.S. foreign policy.

Students will be provided with the textbook Building Citizenship Civics and Economics

After completing the course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the purpose of government and the basic values and ideas of Americandemocracy.
  2. Discuss the structure and function of government at the local, state, and federallevels.
  3. Describe the American economic system and its impact on the nation’s financialhealth.
  4. Understand the rights and responsibilities of citizenship in Americatoday.
  5. List some of the challenges in U.S. foreign policy and other issues facing Americans.
